1993 wechselt Mansell in die US-amerikanische IndyCar-Serie - und holt sich in der Debütsaison den Titel. Er kehrt 1994 als Williams-Ersatzmann nochmals in die Formel 1 zurück und siegt ein letztes Mal beim Finale in Adelaide.
